Without any prior experience. With nothing but a good palate. And the firm belief that ready-made convenience food doesn't have to be bad at all – Jens and Michael quit their jobs in 2009 to give it a try: getting their homemade Honey & Mustard Dressing from a shared flat kitchen onto shop shelves. And it worked. Against all the rules of the food industry. The concept of "consistently free from additives" sparked curiosity right away. And one sauce became many. No investor. No big marketing budget. With your support, we've grown independently, sustainably, and organically to this day. Thank you!

HOW EMILS WAS FOUNDED
If it doesn't exist, we make it ourselves
For our way of making food, you can't just buy the ingredients off the shelf. So what do we do? Make them ourselves. Or have them made specially for us.
For our zesty white wine vinegar, for example, we buy the wine from a Bioland wineyard in Freiburg and have our own vinegar produced from it in the Black Forest.
Awarded for what we leave out
In 2011, we simply showed up at the world's leading trade fair for organic food – the Biofach in Nuremberg – with nothing but 100 bottles of dressing and Jens' living room table.
And we came back with our first award: the "Best New Product Award"!
And more prizes have followed…

Our Vegan Mayo has been awarded
ÖKO-TEST says "very good." We say: thank you!
Our vegan mayo received a "very good" rating from ÖKO-TEST 06/2025. We weren't surprised – but we were delighted all the same. What would have delighted us even more? If ÖKO-TEST also tested the sensory experience.

After our vegan Hollandaise in 2019 – now the vegan mayo: for the second time, PETA has recognised our vegan product line. For our approach of creating delicious plant-based foods where eggs are replaced by flavoursome ingredients rather than thickeners.
